Where there's a Will there's a way

About WiReD™

WiReD™ is the idea of a Solicitor and Estate Planning and Inheritance Tax Consultant who practiced for more than 10 years in England and then moved, lived and worked abroad in Spain and Portugal. As a result of the experience gained during the time spent both in England and abroad it became apparent that there is a genuine need for a registration facility for both UK and overseas Wills. There is currently no obligation to register your Will as a United Kingdom citizen unlike in other jurisdictions. However, there are a number of reasons why you should consider registering your Will: protection of your beneficiaries under the Will; protection of your estate; and the avoidance of Inheritance Tax are just a few.

It will not come as a surprise that a vast majority of Solicitors in private practice have received letters requesting the whereabouts of a Will belonging to a deceased from other firms of Solicitors representing the relatives of the deceased. Why would that be the case? Simple, those relatives do not know where the Will is. Our Registry provides a simple solution to the difficulties caused by the lack of information about the existence and or whereabouts of a Will.

We have established a facility that allows an individual or couple either personally or through their representative(s) to register the location (but not the contents) of their Will including contact details of the Solicitors responsible for drafting the Will, the names and contact details of their Executors and Trustees and the name and, if they so wish, the contact details of their primary beneficiary (ies). In addition, we have developed a sophisticated notification service that keeps all parties concerned up to date on all matters affecting the Will of those registering.

The format of WiReD™ provides you with an opportunity to consider the advantages and benefits of registration of a Will or the Will of a client and thereafter the completion of the registration process.

Once a Will has been registered a password will be issued to the individual responsible for the registration to enable future changes of information. Notification of the registration will be forwarded to the appointed Executors/Trustees but without the password. This will allow the future release of information about the Will and other associated documents. On death of a registrant, those notified as above will be able to search for details in connection with the relevant Will. Disclosure of the Will's location will be provided upon production of the deceased's name, date of birth and National Insurance number.
